Carl East is going to be my pet project here and there. For those of you who haven't been introduced to Carl's short stories or other writings, I found out after reading one of his pretty good standalone stories that he is primarily an "erotic" category writer who dabbles (pun intended) in writing serious, non-erotic short story fiction. After a comment dialogue of my review of his story Forever Young (which I thought was very good), Carl encouraged me to read some of his other non-erotic stories after I encouraged him to give up the erotica and write some straight fiction as I think he has a lot of potential.Once again, Carl wrote a pretty good short story. If I were a writer, I would think a good short story would be more difficult to write than a novel: due to the limited amount of words you have to grab the reader - and quick - to develop the characters, basic plot outline, etc. Carl does it on all fronts with this title, and it was an enjoyable read during one of my lunch breaks. While a part of it was strange and a little silly, Carl can hook the reader into pushing the next page button on their Kindle. I could see this one as the outline for a full-length novel or a series of short stories focusing on Mark as the Grim Reaper.
I liked this one - Carl, how about devoting six months to writing a novel without the erotica? I'm sure your existing backlog can support you in the interim as you give this one a go!
